Under the current circumstances, where a low birth rate and an aging population are leading to full-scale depopulation, it is essential that all people who have the desire and ability to work, including the elderly and persons with disabilities, exercise their abilities for their entire life in order to maintain the vitality of our economy and society.
The 1st International Abilympics (IA) was held in Tokyo in October 1981 to commemorate the United Nations International Year of Disabled Persons. Since then, the IA has been held every 4 years in principle.
