Supporting Vocational Goals of Middle-aged and Elderly Workers

As participation of elderly individuals in society increases, workers are expected to plan their work path at an early stage of life and to select a suitable working style according to their goals and abilities at a later stage of life, while endeavoring to improve their career and the skills required for success.
To meet the needs of these middle-aged and elderly workers, JEED sets up "Elderly Employment and Working Support Corners"* mainly in urban areas where a high demand for these services is predicted and provides the following types of counseling and advice to facilitate vocational life planning at a later stage.
In addition, JEED holds seminars in prefectures that do not have the "Corners" and disseminates information using web sites and other media.

1 Counseling and Advisory Services

JEED provides counseling and advisory services to support vocational issues such as preparation for retirement, reemployment, career inventory, and preparing resumes. In addition, JEED implements specialized counseling regarding pensions, tax, volunteer activities, motivation in life, etc.

2 Second Career Support Training

This is training to support middle-aged and elderly workers in developing second careers (professions started after retirement).
Specifically, JEED implements training to help middle-aged and elderly workers to think proactively about developing their professional careers (developing vocational skills through work experience) from an early stage and selecting their own working styles. This training involves promoting changes in consciousness, career organization, and career plan development in order to find working styles that suits individual goals and abilities at a later stage of life.

3 Seminars

JEED holds seminars regarding retirement preparation, career design, etc., aimed at facilitating vocational life planning at a later stage.
In addition, real-life experience seminars focusing primarily on personal experience of and dialogue with people who started their own businesses, sought employment in their hometowns or rural areas, or participate in social contribution activities.

4 Dissemination of Information Using Web Sites, etc.

JEED disseminates information related to vocational life planning as well as guidance on various seminars. In addition, JEED uses web sites and other media to provide information on "Community Links" listing related organizations that elderly individuals can consult regarding topics such as employment, work, starting a business, and participating in volunteer activities.
JEED also compiles this community information and distributes it in a pamphlet titled Community Career Map.

*Elderly Employment and Working Support Corners have been set up in 14 prefectures; Hokkaido, Miyagi, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Niigata, Shizuoka, Aichi, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka.
